Outstanding Win

Upsetting strong opposition the Gisborne Cycling Club team of Neil Robinson, Gary Croskery, Bruce Ball, Alf Baker and Ray Brown scored a resounding victory in the national final of the Hope Gibbons Shield. Racing over a 25 mile time trial course from Levin to Foxton and return for a time of 55 minutes 49 seconds the team defeated the last-five-times winners, Point Chevalier, by seven seconds.

This was the first win ever by an East Coast - North Island team in this inter-club event.
