Where are They Now?

....John Graham is in London, working as a motor mechanic. Son of Mr and Mrs A. K. Graham, corner of Winter and James Street, John is much travelled, having previously been away on a four-year around-the-world hiking trip which took him to 48 countries. After returning home for two years, he left Gisborne twelve months ago to work his way through 12 countries, from Thailand, through India, the Middle East, and Europe to Britain. He intends returning home after attending the Mexico Olympic Games in 1968. He is pictured below staggering under an enormous pack, "moving house" from paris to London.

....MR A. C. (Joe) Paine is in Wellington where he was recently appointed Commissioner of Government Insurance. He joined the Gisborne branch of Government Life as a cadet 33 years ago, staying here until 1939. We photographed him recently on one of his frequent visits to the city to see his mother, Mrs E. Paine, of 11 Willow Street.

....Peter Toye has just gone to Paris to join the Brotherhood of Man, a volunteer international welfare organisation with which he hopes to serve in India. Former secretary of the Gisborne Save the Children campaign, Peter is the son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Toye, 157 Ballance Street. He left N.Z. last November, and has been working at Liberties of London, leaders in the English fashion textile field, gaining experience for his family's business. A former P.B. rep rugby player, he has turned out for Blackheath Club and the N.Z. London team. He expects to be away about two years.

....Bill and Joan Painter are in Hong Kong with the Y.M.C.A. Former secretary of the Gishorne YM, Bill left three years ago to be programme secretary of the Hong Kong branch. Joan, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. I. Phinn, 1 Jellicoe Street, is supervisor of the 100 Chinese hostel staff. Situated in the British concession on the Chinese mainland of Kowloon, the Y.M.C.A. is a large concern, containing shops, library, cafeteria, swimming pool, and tennis courts in addition to the gymnasium and hostel. Bill and Joan have a two-year-old daughter, Marie, and hope to spend up to six years in Hong Kong. They are pictured eating out, Chinese style.
