Sportsman of the Month

Diana Jones

Our sportsman this month is a girl (confusing, isn't it). She is Diana Jones, a talented 18-year-old gymnast who was recently selected as a member of the New Zealand training squad from which a team will be chosen to tour Australia.

With only three years experience behind her, under the coaching of Mr John McFarlane Diana has climbed the ladder to success very quickly. In 1965 she was second in the H.B. champs, in 1966 was winner of the Waikato champs, and this year has gained a third placing in the Wellington champs.

Dedicated to her sport, she spends many hours in the gymnasium, both training and coaching younger girls.

Daughter of Mr and Mrs I. E. Jones, 4 Vivian Street, Diana is an upper sixth form pupil and deputy head-prefect at the Girls' High. Next year she will study at Hamilton University, for a B.A. in maths, where she hopes to, further her gymnastics.
