Pictures From The Past

The three men are M. Graham, M. Hills and S. Petrie.

The tents were used for sleeping and the galley was made from punga covered with nikau fronds with an open cooking fire in a galvanised iron chimney at one end.

It belonged to her grandfather, Charlie Lange, who lived there for many years and was well known in the district. It has since been demolished.

Mrs Martin says her mother often laughed about the horse "playing gooseberry" when she and her father were courting, and by the look in that animal's eye I can well believe that it's true!
