Colour It Mechanical

An unusual side effect of the recent race meeting was the "togetherness" of these Cessna aircraft at the airport.

The seven of these machines is the largest number of this type of aircraft which has yet been on the ground at once in Gisborne.

Add to the fact that they are worth up to £4,000 each and you have quite a tidy amount.

They were all hired by racegoers and horse owners to come to the Makaraka meeting.

"The Man Who Rode The Bull Thru' Kaiti" and other animal stories by the famous author Mudyard Ripling.

Once upon a time there was a terrible animal known as the Wild Bull of Motu. It got loose in Gisborne and rampaged far and wide and did a lot of damage before everyone was saved. For into town came Senor e Nevello y Alfonso el Spencoso, the famous Spanish..er ..bullfighter. He rode the dangerous monster all thru' Kaiti to a standstill at the works and it never troubled no one again. I theenk.'

I'm Drome, a much travelled, well-bred 12-year-old Labrador-Collie dog. Last August my master, Mr Robert McIlwain, and I arrived in New Zealand from England by ship (12,000 miles you know), and now I'm off back again by Boeing 707 through Pago Pago, Honolulu, (fabulous girl dogs here), San Francisco and Seattle. I have a special cage supplied by Pan Am and in the picture just before we leave are Mike Brittenden of N.A.C., my master, and his two sons, Bob and Jack.

And my name is Yottie Dennis and if you think that Auckland is the only place for talking minahs. you've got another tink coming.

I live with Sid and Dorrie Dennis at 12 Bulwer Road, I'm five years old, expect to live to 14, and I talk like a book and as clear as a bell.

Besides being able to say My name is Yottie Dennis: Good morning, make a cup of tea, and I want honey, I whistle the cat then call him (Here Ming), whistle at girls, make a noise like a hammer or a saw and scream out Help when they cover my cage at night.....Anything else you want to know?
