Sportsmen Of The Month

Our sportsmen of the month are Bruce Adams and Glen Sutton who are both members of the Waikanae Surf Life-saving Club and who were both selected as members of the New Zealand Surf Team to compete against Australia at Titahi Bay on January 21.

Bruce, 29, and a plumber, has been surf life-saving since he was 14, won the N.Z. Belt Race trophy in 1954, was runner-up to the senior title last year and was a member of the 6 man R & R team which won the N.Z. title in 1962 and '66.

Bruce is pictured above with his wife June, son Michael and daughter Christine who is holding the 1954 trophy.

Glen, 18, is a plasterer, and is the son of Mrs Min Sutton, 16 Leith Street, and the late Arthur Sutton.

He has been competing in surf life-saving events for the past five years, was a member of the N.Z. Surf Team to tour Australia in the 1965-65 season, and won the N.Z. Junior Belt title in the '65-66 season.

Glen is the winner, also, of the Waimata River swim held for the first time this year.
