Thundering Hooves

The thunder of hooves and the roar of the surf combined to make an exciting day for many hundreds of visitors and punters at the Poverty Bay Polo Club's annual beach race meeting held on the shore past Midway on January 2.

In most of the events the winner of each proved superior to its rivals but that did not detract from the colourful spectacle of horses and riders in action.

There is no shortage of punters ready to wager on the equalisator.

The banks above the high tide mark make good grandstands from which to view the races.
