Tough Climb

The Tramping and Canoeing Club's annual hill climb for the Creswell Cup again proved tough going for the entrants.

The competitors run and climb over a course up the twin peaks of Motukeo (1,404ft), and Pukea-i-kuri (1,400ft), which lie on either side of the swing bridge up Riverside Road.

For the fifth time in seven years the race was won by Dave Hughes who, second to the top of Motukeo, took off thereafter and was never headed.

The record for the climb up Motukeo, held by Hughes, is 15 minutes.
