A proposal put forward by the East Coast and Gisborne Branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects as a national memorial to Captain Cook is this Unisphere.

A replica of the Unisphere which was the central feature at the New York World Fair, the monument would be part of the whole beautification and scenic drive scheme of Kaiti hill.
