Of Machinery......and Construction

A yarn crimping machine is the latest addition to the vast complex of machinery at Columbine Hosiery and (above) is being assembled by (from left), W. Sipenen, D. Straw, L. Blick, T. Sheahan and P. Pole, while (at right) is J. Davies who came out from England to supervise the installation.

Volunteers heave-to with a will as they assist at the raising of the twin spires at the front of the new Apostolic Church in Gladstone Road. The spires will provide part of the attractive frontage the church will eventually present to the street.

This monster gangway is being moved By Monk Bros from Stanley Road, to Watties Canneries. It will be erected over Customhouse Street and will be the basis for a walkway and conveyor belt system, connecting the main factory with the new warehouse and labelling department which is in the course of erection.
