Displayed by Mrs J. Waihi, and made by her aunt Mrs M. Nepia, both of Manutuke, these Maori Kits (kete) are fine examples of the kit-maker's craft. Inheriting the craft from her ancestors in the King Country; Mrs Nepia does all her own flax cutting, stripping, softening, drying and dyeing before weaving the kits. And in her spare time finds time to instruct others in the art.
