Kaiti School Project

A number of classes at the Kaiti School recently completed a project in team teaching using an aspect of local environment, in this case aerial top-dressing, and using where possible full integration of subject content.

×

For topdressing a plane is necessary and the pilot is Kevin Pitcher.

×

The plane needs maintenance and the mechanics are Alan McKnight and Philip Blackburn (far right).

×

The plane also needs ground contact and the officer in charge of the control tower is Terry Leaf.

×

The topdressing makes for good growth and Susy Costello, Janice Clayton and Susy Haronga show how the grass grows.

A co-related subject is wool and instructress Prue Shepherd gives some pointers to Edmond Bradford, Gordon Sutton and Truby Morgan (standing), and Mary Fox, Dawn Coleman, Susy Haronga and Les Kawenga.

×

Erosion is part of the project and in front of their display on the subject are, from left, Kura. Ngerengere, Kay Keelan, Queenie Taylor, Chris Andrew, Sandra Kape, Marona Aupouri, Awhi Paenga, Charmain Naden, Graeme Humphreys, Wade Lloyd and Wayne Swannell.

Complicated mathematical calculations were resolved by, at back, Mark Douglas, Ray Hovell, Brian Walworth, Warwick Preston, and, in front, Noel Reardon, Raima Haronga, Anna Shields and Susan Stevens.

At their drawing boards the art and craft men design and paint posters to show how the whole thing works. They are, from left, Joe Brown, Ivan Allwood, Sonny Boyce, Brian Wilcox, Alan Betheune, Tamati Paenga, Jimmy Mills and Albert Rickard.

Pictured with some woollen goods, which are one of the end products of the scheme, are Ben Brown, Donald Shields, David Marengaorangi, Courtenay Jacobs, Gaylene Dearness and Linda Flavell.
