"Operation 21"

Under a recently formed committee a group of Gisborne young people banded together to help those starving in other lands.

Called Operation 21, a shanty town, demonstrating the living conditions of millions, was erected on a vacant section in Gladstone Road (left), and the equivalent of one day's supply of food for these people was offered in the street on the Friday before the CORSO appeal. A dance which was also held raised the total amount collected to £155.
