Pictures From The Past
The original site was purchased from the Machell estate at a cost of £3,100.
Paid for by the Aerodrome Loan of 1930 the levelling of the first section of the aerodrome took place in 1931-32.
Taken fifty years ago after an explosion in J. J. Niven's foundry, this pic, sent to us by Mr H. Herivel, of 39 Michaels Ave., Auckland, shows some of the employees sitting on some of the rubble.
From Mr G. S. Wilson, 46 Moana Road, Wainui, comes this photo of the Uawa Rowing crew of 1922. They are from left, J. N. Penfold (bow), G. S. Wilson (2), B. W. Lincoln (3), and D. Menzies (stroke).
