A memorial service to the late Tuini Ngawai was held at Tokomaru Bay on Good Friday. Mr Hanan, Minister for Native Affairs, Mrs Esme Tombleson, M.P. for Gisborne, and other dignitaries were present.

Members of the public and local organisations turned out for the annual Anzac Day Service which was conducted by Father Hackett.
