Pictures From The Past

The Garrison Hall at Gisborne, destroyed by fire on 20 January, 1931. The hall, opened in 1908, measured 125ft × 100 ft, plus an 80 × 20 stage, and a l6ft lean-to on both sides --at the time it was the largest single span building in N.Z. (Picture from Mr L. R. Stichbury, 209 Clifford Street).

The barque Aotea ashore at Waipiro Bay. This time she was refloated, but later, on 16-9-1906, she was wrecked on Tawhia Point with the loss of all lives. (Pic from Mr Gordon Painter, 7 Balmoral Street, Taradale).
