A Puramahoi Guide, Margaret Wakelin, was presented with her Queen's Guide award by Mrs Jean Adams, District Commissioner, at a ceremony in the Anzac Park Scout Hall. In addition to receiving this premier badge, Margaret graduated to the Gisborne Cadet Group. She is seen with her mother (left), Mrs M. Wakelin, captain of the company, and Mrs Adams (right).

Mr J. T. Hill (centre), who has retired from the H.B. Education Board, received presentations at a function held in his honour at the Intermediate School hall. With Mr Hill is Mr L. Beattie (left), who made a presentation on behalf of the Gisborne ward of primary school committees, and Mr J. A. T. McEldowney, president N.Z. Federation of School Committees.

The Waikanae Surf Life-saving Club's senior six-man R and R team won the Nelson Shield, the premier lifesaving trophy, at the recent N.Z. championships in New Plymouth. Members of the team are, from left, Mark Pickett, Garry Thompson, Barry McLean, Dick Glover (coach, now of Auckland), Jim McLean, Bruce Adams, Roger McLean.

Two brothers who had not seen each other for 62 years were reunited in Gisborne when Mr Herbert Newing (left), of Perth, visited his brother Ernest, of 112 Russell Street. The pair were separated when Ernest left their home in Dover, England, in 1904 to sail to New Zealand and Gisborne, where he has lived since 1905.
