Members of the Tarry family had their first reunion for 20 years when they assembled at the Aero Club Hall to celebrate the 80th birthday of their mother, Mrs Alice M. Tarry, of Bedford Crescent, Matamata. They are, from left: Frank, Bette (Mrs Armstrong), Keith, Mrs Tarry, Phyllis (Mrs Butterworth), and Colin. (K.K.K.).

A broken tumbler shaft on the Westminster Dredging Company's Foremost Prince put it out of action for over a week. The replacement shaft and its two giant gear wheels, weighing 13 tons, required a large mobile crane from Rotorua to lift them the 60ft to the top of the dredge.
