Bridge Building At Wainui

The new 170ft Okitu Stream bridge at Wainui Beach came a step closer to completion last month when the first of 15 pre-stressed reinforced concrete beams, each weighing 13 tons, was hoisted into position.

The job of positioning the beams was undertaken by Monk Bros Ltd, who used three mobile cranes to handle the tricky task.

The bridge, which is supported in the middle by two streamlined T piers, will be completed by next March.
