Former Marist and Poverty Bay half-back Peter Bailey, son of Mrs E. A. Bailey, 29 Ranfurly Street, who is now domiciled in Perth, was one of the stars of the Western Australia rugby team which met the Springboks in the opening game of their current tour. Bailey (white jersey) is pictured tackling Lofty Nel (13) in this incident from the game.

Miss Diane Varley, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Varley, 193 Ormond Road, is now in Washington serving a three-year term as private secretary to the New Zealand Ambassador.

Gisborne was represented by several teams at the recent N.Z. Indoor Bowls championships in Rotorua.
