Collecting For The Blind
A large band of voluntary workers canvassed the city on a recent Saturday morning for the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind's annual Braille Week collection.
A preliminary count showed a total sum of about £2200, which compared favourably with last year's effort. Some of the workers are shown in these pictures.
At Te Hapara School a group of supervisors and senior pupils of the school assembled before starting the collection. At rear are, from left: Janet Jeffernan, Carol Davoren, Frank Boyle, Wally Varley, and George Stevens.
Staff members from several city banks helped count the money. From left: Peter Pritchard, Derek Barbour, Barry Farrell, John Brewster, Barry Timms, and Michael Jackson.
Members of the Lions Club helped organise the collection. From left: Ronald Brown, Colin Varley, Jack Bos, Paddy Pilbrow, Hilary and Lorna Brown, Gus Herkt, John Old, and Alec Boyce.
