A giant blue-gum tree on Mr G. S. Colbert's property at Te Puia was uprooted by a gale and fell across the car-shed housing his new Holden. Both car and shed were extensively damaged.

Mr and Mrs Jack Andrew recently brought in a good haul of Maomao, a beautiful little bright blue fish plentiful near the rocks on the East Coast and Bay of Plenty, but seldom found south of Pouawa.

The former printing house of the "East Coast Watch", which commenced publication at Tokomaru Bay in 1919, is being demolished to make room for the approach of a new concrete bridge across the Mangahauini Stream.

The old wooden Mangahauini Stream bridge, which has borne the weight of East Coast main road traffic for nearly half a century.
