Orphans Raided

A group of Masterton Savage Club members who raided the Gisborne Orphans Club were dealt with in suitable style when they disembarked from their bus outside the Abercorn hall, in Ormond Road, on a recent Saturday afternoon.

Following speeches of welcome by the Mayor, Mr H. H. Barker, and "town crier", Mr Wally Jonasen, the Savages were medically examined and forced to take doses of castor oil.

On arrival the Savages were greeted by Burnley Cooper as a rather distressed Maori wahine with her child.

Speakers at the welcoming ceremony were from left: Messrs Bill Sutherland (Chief Orphan), H. H. Barker, W. Jonasen, and Alec McHattie (head of raiding party).
