The Okitu Stream bridge, for a long time a bottleneck in the East Coast highway at Wainui, is soon to be replaced by a modern structure. The contract for the new bridge, which is to be on a different angle to the old one to bring it in line with the proposed new highway at the back of the Wainui settlement, was let recently to the Te Karaka firm of C. W. Ireland Ltd. Our picture shows the site of the new bridge, cleared of trees in preparation for starting work.

The Power Board was recently in the "dog-box" with the congregation of the Wainui Presbyterian Church for erecting an unsightly transformer and power poles immediately in front of the church. However, all is now well, as the offending poles have been removed.

Wainui Motels Ltd are expected to open for business in about a month. The motels at present consist of four units and a manager's residence and office, but an additional block is planned for the near future.
