Autumn Races

The first day of the Poverty Bay Turf Club's autumn meeting, held in fine weather at Makaraka earlier this month, saw the biggest field in the history of the club leave the barrier.

Twenty-five horses contested the first leg of the T.A.B. double, the Te Hapara Handicap, with the winner, Khoringa, taking the decision by a nose from Gold Dowa.

Takings for the meeting were also greater than for the same time last year, with an increase of £3,010/15/-.
