First Concrete Poured

The honour of pouring the first concrete for the Midway Surf Life-saving Club's new £18,000 club house, which is at present under construction at Midway Beach, went to foundation members Nick Carter (left) and Jack Griffen, president of the club.

The ambitious project, for which fund-raising was started with a £1 donation by president Griffen at the club's inauguration meeting some 12 years ago, will culminate next September when the much-needed building will be officially opened.

In addition to providing modern facilities for the club members to perform their self-appointed task as guardians of the beach, the club house will contain public changing sheds, a shop, and a 2640 square foot cabaret floor.
