Minister Inspects Wainui Erosion

During his recent visit to Gisborne, the Minister of Works, Mr P. B. Allen, and members of the Cook County Council, inspected the sea erosion problem at Wainui Beach.

The erosion along the major part of the beach has been checked by the series of steel groynes installed several years ago, but these have been ineffective at the southern end of the bay.

Although the Minister was unable to offer any tangible assistance, he showed considerable interest in the problem, which is now being studied by a panel of engineers.
