Gisborne's Faults...
Through Visitors' Eyes
During the last Christmas holiday season, in which Gisborne played host to a record number of tourists, the P.R.O., Mr John Burland, conducted a survey of our visitors' impressions and comments of the city.
A summary of the survey, containing an interesting section of suggestions for future improvements, has since been issued by the P.R. Office.
Naturally, most of the suggestions related to the beach and camping ground areas, where items such as lack of shade, public facilities, and beach improvement were among the more notable complaints.
Top of the list was not enough shade trees, both at the beach and in the city. This was followed by the need for improvement to the general appearance of the beach front. In this picture, taken from Roberts Road, the virtually undeveloped section of Waikanae Beach, dotted with struggling Norfolk Pines and beaten-up rubbish tins, can be seen.
Some visitors felt the need for a better sound shell
More (and better) rubbish bins needed at the beach
Footpath condition aroused comment
