This Month's Cover

Trevor Riley, captain of the Poverty Bay representative Rugby team, seen taking a kick on this month's cover, has scored 36 points in the first three rep. games of this season. Against Horowhenua he was responsible for 15 of the 30 points for his side. He played for Gisborne High School in earlier years, then moved to Wellington. During his five years there he was a member of the Hutt Club, and played for Wellington Province in 1952, 1953 and 1954. He represented the North Island, and also played in the All Black trials, in 1953, and was generally considered to have been unlucky not to have made the team.

Still only 22, Riley has many years of good football ahead of him.

We persuaded Trevor to give us a demonstration kick partly to see if our high-speed camera would stop that flying boot of his. But as you see, even 1/500th of a second couldn't quite make it. Small wonder that ball flies far and fast.
