In the game against Wairarapa, Poverty Bay. was beaten by 14 points to 9. The local forwards appeared to be having an off day, except for a period in the second spell.

Battle of the All Blacks: Richard White (P.B., left) and Alan Blake (Wairarapa, right) reach for the ball in one of the line-outs, with still another player adding a further pair of hands from the rear. They have a good audience of P.B. forwards. Both White and Blake were away with the 1953 touring All Blacks.

This time White has the ball to himself and the nearest opposition comes from J. Paea.
