More Records Broken

At the annual sports of the Gisborne Boys' High School more records were broken this year. But the one which Willie Koia is shown breaking in the picture above has stood for a long time, since 1926 to be exact. With both feet off the ground, Koia makes a final thrust to the tape to clip 2.8sec off the 880yd time. At right the school masters Messrs D. Bird, R. Cook, J. MacDonald, H. Turner and D. Metzger record the result. Koia also broke the mile record with a time of 4min 38.8sec.

Kim Harris also won the senior 220 in a closer finish. Left to right the runners are G. Barbara, J. McGregor, J. Wauchop, I. Moore, and Harris.
