Surfers' Paradise

Gisborne district, with its many miles of beautiful beaches and coastline, is becoming accepted as the centre of New Zealand for the increasingly popular sport of surfboard riding. In addition to the multitude of local enthusiasts who will be spending their leisure hours revelling in this thrilling sport off Gisborne's beaches this season, will be many visiting surfers from throughout the country and overseas. One such person is Bob (Arab) Steele, an Australian who spent last season in Gisborne, returned to his homeland for the winter, and is coming back to Gisborne again this summer. He is pictured "locked in" a perfectly-shaped tubing wave at Makarori Beach.
