Working In Korea

A Gisborne nursing sister, Leigh Vincent, daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Vincent, Dominion Road, has sacrificed a very promising career as a hospital matron to work for two years with the "Save the Children" medical unit in Korea.

Educated at the Te Hapara and Gisborne High Schools, Sister Vincent did her nursing training at Wellington Public Hospital, and later moved to Australia, where she completed her midwifery in Tasmania. She later gained the distinction of becoming the youngest hospital matron in Australia.

In Korea, she is working amongst appalling poverty and squalor, attending to the medical needs of the women and children. She receives no salary except a small sur in pocket-money.
