Robert Holt and Sons' modern new showroom in Gladstone Road features an innovation for Gisborne buildings.....a honeycombasbestos type frontage over glass windows above the verandah roof, which cuts down the direct sunlight while still giving adequate lighting inside. Giving the building a pleasing sheer look, this style of finish will be used extensively on the new Government Life Insurance building.

The impressive new Latter Day Saints Chapel and school in Upper Stout Street is almost completed in readiness for its opening day in the very near future. The building is dominated by the tall white contemporary-style steeple.

Positioning a roof girder in the laundry block of the new hospital in Upper Ormond Road. The 90ft concrete and brick chimney stack and a portion of the boiler house can be seen in the background.

Alloy window frames are now being installed in the five-storey Government Life Insurance building on the corner of Gladstone Road and Grey Street.

The Australia and New Zealand Bank in Gladstone Road has been partially demolished to make way for a new ultra-modern structure to be built on the same site.
