Hector Gray, in his time one of New Zealand's most famous jockeys, and now a trainer at Ta-kanini, near Auckland, leaving course after trials with a couple of "good 'uns". King Harold, here with Mr Gray up, later won the wainui Hack Hurdles. Horse he is leading (almost obscured) is Queen's Garland, which won the Matawhero Novice Stakes No.2.
