His many friends in Gisborne learned with regret recently of the death of Mr Norvel Keith Brown, who was engineer to the Cook Hospital Board from 1945 to 1954. Mr Brown, who had taken up an appointment as engineer to the Taranaki Hospital Board, died in New Plymouth. He was 42 years of age, and is survived by his wife and two young children. Mr Brown, who before the war served as an engineer on several vessels of the Shaw Savill line, was on the Tairoa when she was sunk by the German raider, Graf Spee. He was on the prison ship Altmark when she was intercepted by H. M. S. Cossack, and after reaching England he continued his career in the Royal Naval Reserve. Later he joined the New Zealand navy. Mrs Brown is now living with her parents in Christchurch.
