First Bridge Tournament

Ninety-two players competed in the Gisborne Contract Bridge Club's first tournament, held in the Ilminster Intermediate School hall over a recent weekend.

Many of these contestants came from throughout the North Island, among them being the Auckland world class pair of Mr Bruce Bell and Mrs H. O. Taylor, who have won many New Zealand championships. Mr Bell was the top Southern Hemisphere player in the recent world championships.

The tournament resulted in a win for the Auckland pair, after making a comeback in the final session.
