School News

With the school year now well under way, Gisborne's secondary schools have announced their head prefects, who are pictured above and at left.

Te Hapara Primary School recently held a farewell function for two of its staff members.

Gisborne Boys' High Schools: Bruce Neilson, son of Mr and Mrs H. A. Neilson, corner of Lytton and Ormond Roads.

Gisborne Girls' High School: Elizabeth Hudson, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Hudson, 31 Bulwer Road.

Edmund Campion College: Bob Anderson, son of Mr and Mrs J. Anderson, 9 Foster Street.

St. Mary's School: Christine Schollum, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. R. Schollum, 25 Stanley Road.

Mr D. J. Maxwell (right), who has been head teacher for the past four years, being congratulated on his appointment to head teacher of Central School by his replacement, Mr A. Bibby, formerly of Waipawa. At rear is Mrs Maxwell, who was presented with a bouquet by the children of the school.

Mr L. Snook, with Mrs Snook, who has been at the school for seven-and a-half years, was also farewelled. He is now first assistant at Elgin.
