Boys' High Athletics

A large crowd of spectators assembled at the Gisborne Boys' High School playing field on a recent Saturday to watch the annual athletic sports meeting.

Unpleasant wind and weather conditions did not favour fast times in the track events, but one record was broken: that of the intermediate javelin throw, by N. McLean, with a distance of 133ft ¼in, beating the existing record by more than two feet.

The meeting saw the introduction of a pole vault competition, which was keenly contested in two sections.
