Mr Clark has had 30 years association with the surfing movement in N.Z., commencing in Opotiki, and later as a member of the newly-formed Wainui Club. After the second World War, he transferred to Waikanae Club, which he represented on many occasions, and of which he is still a member. He was the first chairman of the Gisborne Surf Life-saving Association, holding this position for seven years, and has been presented with the service award of the N.Z. Association. He is also a member of the Gisborne Water Safety Committee, and the Royal Life-saving Association.

His familiar figure, as judge and examiner at swimming and surfing fixtures in Gisborne, will be sadly missed.
