Scots Guards in Gisborne

The band of Her Majesty's Scots Guards presented a spectacle of music, marching, and dancing, to large crowds at the Chiiders Road Reserve when they performed in Gisborne recently.

Dressed in their full ceremonial uniforms, the 66-strong detachment made a most colourful and impressive sight with their precise drill movements and marching.

A military band, which includes woodwind instruments as well as the customary brass, the guards were particularly impressive with their playing of a wide variety of musical numbers ranging from marches to popular jazz.

Performing in sweltering conditions, the bandsmen must have felt the weight of their heavy and elaborate uniforms.

Accompanying the guards were pipers and drummers of the First Battalion, wearing full Highland dress, who joined the band on one occasion for a memorable combined item.
