Yacht Championships

Fine weather and moderate winds prevailed for the annual Poverty Bay yachting championships, contested over three races during Anniversary weekend by 35 boats from the Gisborne, Wairoa, and Napier yacht clubs.

In the five competitive classes, visiting yachtsmen claimed three victories, with Gisborne entries taking the other two.

The regatta saw the introduction to Gisborne waters of five sleek Olympic class Flying Dutchmen vessels, all from the Napier club.
