The Governor In Gisborne

Although the weather was wet for the visit of the Governor-General to Gisborne last month, the warmth of the district's welcome more than made up for any disappointment in this respect. The friendly, almost informal dispositions of Sir Bernard Fergusson and Lady Fergusson won for them a host of new friends, and enlivened the renewal of warm acquaintanceship with many district people known in the past.

The vice-regal couple visited Lytton High School for the annual prizegiving, and then met as many primary school children as the weather would allow at the Intermediate School. After lunch in their busy day, they attended the district reception in the War Memorial Hall, and paid visits to the Health Camp and the Cook Hospital. In the evening Sir Bernard took special pleasure in the entertainment arranged by the Maori people in Poho-o-rawiri, which was packed to the doors for the occasion.
