Golden Fleeco Finals

The district finals of the Golden Fleeco wool-handling competition were staged before a large crowd in the Y.M.C.A. stadium recently.

In the keenly-contested final of the premier event, the teams' match, a Tolaga Bay foursome of R. Te Kani and R. Baker (shearers), and Mesdames B. Baker and L. Te Kani (fleecos), narrowly defeated the Matawai No 1 team.

L. Te Kani also claimed the awards for the cleanest shearer in the competition and the shearer making the fewest cuts.

The former N.Z. champion and representative, Stewart Symon, won the individual shearing contest after an exciting duel with Puku Smiler in the final.
