Gisborne made history recently when it exported the first shipment of N.Z. sheep to India: 320 Romney two-tooth ewes. Mr I. G. Davidson, a member of the Gisborne Road Safety Committee, shows a visiting motorist the extent of carbon monoxide gas found in his car by a gas detector. Of the 49 cars tested, 16 were found to have quantities of this killer gas.

Mr Soewarto, one of the 16 students from South East Asia and Africa who spent their Christmas vacations in Gisborne as guests of members of the Women's Division of the Federated Farmers, being greeted at the airport by Mr W. J. Kissock, of Waerenga-o-kuri, and the P.R.O., Mr John Burland.

A 114 ft girder, constructed by Monk Bros. to carry the Gisborne water supply pipeline across the Te Arai Stream in the upper Waingake Valley, completely spans Gladstone Road as it leaves the factory.
