Tatapouri Fishing Contest

Approximately 50 vessels took part in the Tatapouri fishing contest held last month to celebrate the opening of the new concrete boat ramp.

In the five and-a-half hours' fishing time of the contest, the competitors pulled in over 1½ tons of fish, ranging from terakihi, to sharks, to stingrays.

The contest was judged in several sections, the prize for the heaviest catch going to Ted Dever's boat, with a 311 lb haul. The fishing was not restricted to the men, Mrs A. Christie claiming the prize for the heaviest fish landed in the ladies' section with a 301lb hapuka.
