Mobile Sawmillers

A novel but highly efficient method of milling timber has been practised in the Gisborne district during the past 12 months by two enterprising Opotiki men. Using a Huntly-designed, Opotiki-built, mobile sawmill, the men are able to offer an "on the spot service" to farmers who want a stand of timber milled for their own use.

Powered by an adapted tractor, the mill is capable of turning out 3000 log feet in a good day.....a very comparable figure with that of a conventional mill.

Driven as it stands from job to job, the machine requires a special permit from the Transport Department for travel.
