From M. Ruru, Waituhi, comes this picture of the only Maori team to play an international hockey match. It was played at Rotorua in 1935 against the All India Touring Hockey Team. From left in front: C. Pere, M. Ruru (capt.), B. Halbert (P.B.), G. Haerewa (E. C), W. McKay (H.B.), J. Pohatu, S. Moeau (P.B.), M. Edwards (Wairoa), P. Amai (B.O.P.), B. Le Bas (H.B.), M. Pomana (P.B.), B. Tuhoe (Maori Coach) is on the left in the back row. Fourth and fifth from left are Roop Singh and his brother, Dyan Chan, regarded as the most famous hockey centre forward of all time.

This group of St. John Ambulance Cadets are from Rutatoria. Cadet Officer Hugh Hughes took the boys to the hut on Hikurangi. The youngest was six years old. From there, five boys climbed to the top of the mountain.

Taken by Mr R. H. Johnson, 54 Ballance Street, the picture shows a bulldozer working on the bluff at Mangatuna on the East Coast Highway between Tolaga and Tokomaru Bay.

The baby deer was two months old when this picture was taken by Mr J. W. Charteris, Otoko. It is now a pet around the house and answers to the name of "Tommy". It was given a milk diet and fed four times a day.
