This is "Gertie", the well-known donkey, which died the other day at the age of 39 years. Gertie is seen here with her former owner, Mr Peter McLean, 15 Karaka Street, Gisborne, saddled up with cans of milk in the days when she was art essential part of the milk delivery system at Tuai, near Lake waikaremoana. Mr McLean is also in the picture.

Mr and Mrs Peter Hodgson with Christina, 5months and Dean, 21 months. Mr Hodgson has been transferred from New Plymouth to Gisborne as Examining Officer with the Customs Department.

39 rose plants, valued at over £20, were donated to the Gisborne Rose Society by S. J. Samuels, Nelson. Four members of the Society planted the bushes in the gardens around the flag-pole at the War Memorial Hall. They are, from left, Ted Coulston, Vince Davies, Stan Monck and Ray Appleyard, president of the society.
