Girl Guides

The Girl Guide movement recently celebrated its 40th birthday. The occasion was commemorated all over the Dominion with tree planting ceremonies.

The pictures above, and left, show part of the simple ceremony as carried out by the Mangapapa Girl Guide Company.

The Guide Captain, Mrs Nancy Fry, addresses the company and explains the reason for the ceremony.

Senior guide Leigh Sefton (with spade) plants the tree, while cadet Alayne Holmes compresses the earth.

The tree is placed in the hole while the company is drawn up in horseshoe formation.

The first Trainer's Certificate to be won in this province was awarded to Captain Nancy Fry.

Queen's Badges have been won by Lynora James, Aranga, and Christine Schollum, Endeavout.

Alayne Holmes has won her Cadet Camp-craft permit, the first to be won in the province. She becomes a Guide Lieutenant next month.
